I offer a variety of services such as assisting with newborn care, family adjustment, meal preparation, light household tasks, and more. I offer evidence based information to new parents who are emotionally and physically recovering from birth. Postpartum Doulas also provide resources whenever services beyond their scope are requested or required.
Postpartum doulas are skilled and knowledgeable about the care and development of infants as well as maternal recovery and adjustment. I provide non-judgmental guidance on newborn care and feeding, assist the mother with physical and emotional recovery, care for baby so mother can care for herself, and provide practical household assistance.

The first few weeks are when you can benefit the most from having knowledgeable helpers in your home. Having a doula there the first couple days can make days 3, 4, & 5 (when your milk typically arrives) much more manageable, help partners and extended family understand how to make the best team of care.
I want to emphasize that I am not there to parent the baby; this baby came to live with your family and I am happy to use any parenting technique that fits your style, but if you need some new ideas I can make suggestions on techniques that have worked well for myself and other families I have helped.

Research shows that parents supported by a Postpartum Doula often feel less anxious and have a lower incidence of postpartum depression and anxiety. They have an increased sense of self confidence and generally a deeper sense of satisfaction with their partner. Support from a Postpartum Doula has also been linked to higher rates of satisfaction and success with breastfeeding at 6 weeks postpartum.

Doulas can come from a wide variety of backgrounds with varying degrees of experience. I have a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Waterloo, and have taken several classes in sexuality, marriage and the family. I am certified through Doula Canada and a member of the Association of Doulas. Most importantly, I am a mother of four. I have experienced the struggles of motherhood. I have lived and loved it for over a decade. Because of my personal experience, my desire to help other mothers realize their strength is my passion.

Unfortunately doula services are not covered by provincial health insurance in Ontario.
If you are worried about the cost, if possible, plan early by adding postpartum doula support to your gift registry or having your friends and family purchase gift certificates to offset the cost of your care, you may be able to extend your support beyond your initial budget. Please contact me if you would like to set up a gift registry.
